<g:plusone href="http://garrymilne.com.au/microsoft-phone-support-scam-beware/"></g:plusone>
Many of our clients have received calls from people pretending to be from Microsoft. The reason for the call is that Microsoft has supposedly detected “errors” on your computer and they are offering to remotely access your computer and repair the issue. This is after you install some software that gives them access to it.

This is a scam so please be aware.

Some of our client’s have thought the calls are legitimate and as a result have allowed these technicians to log in to their computers.

The way these people demonstrate that your computer has major problems is that they show you the Windows Event Viewer. This program logs all types of events. To the uninformed, it can really look like there is something wrong with your system when you look at the log and see ‘errors’ and ‘warnings’.

Event Viewer

That said, this is a normal part of the Windows operating system and just because errors are being logged it does not mean there is anything seriously wrong with your system.

These fake callers offer a year’s phone support package worth between $300 and $400 so do not give them your credit card and do not install anything that gives them remote access to your computer.

If we have installed Teamviewer on your system, do not give them the Login ID and do not give them the temporary password.

Microsoft never call you unless you have called their Support Centre and logged a phone support job. Microsoft also do not provide any type of monitoring system to track your system errors from some remote part of the world.

Please pass this information on to your friends and family.
